Devin's Latest New Word

Straw!!

He wants to drink his milk through a straw, just like brother. So, when we start getting milk, with great gusto, Devin exclaims, "STRAW!"

Why does Daddy pick up Trevor from Daycare?

Trevor's answer:

"Otherwise, I will have to stay at Motorola forever."

He really used the word "otherwise", too!

Super heroes

By now you know that one of Devin's new words is Batman!

We do talk about super heroes a lot. I'm not really sure why. But, this morning, Trevor said that he wanted to be Spiderman when he grew up. After Trevor said the name, Spiderman, Devin responded with Batman!

So, is it "man"? If I said Pieman, would Devin say "Batman!" Sillyman...Batman? I just don't know. But, I think the real truth is that he recognized the names of other superheroes, he wants to contribute to the conversation, so he brings up the one super hero he can say.

Trevor and the JEEP

Asleep at the Meal II

New Link

There's a new link the right. It's our online Video Collection. Click there to view all of our Google Videos. I haven't uploaded the large videos (i.e., the ones you received for Christmas on DVD). Let me know if there is a demand for that, please! It won't work in Wynona until something more than Dial-Up is available, though.

Hayna, revisted.

Yesterday, after gymnastics, I was Hayna again.

I guess I'm Hayna when Trevor really, really, REALLY likes me.

This was Trevor's second Gymnastics class. It's offered by the local park district, and I really like the teacher and the class size. It's at the Freshman center, though, and I do not like the surroundings. I may be spoiled, but it's smelly, and even the teacher told us not to drink the water! (She said it was wormy).

But, Trevor doesn't seem to mind the smell, and he is really enjoying the class. I went ahead and signed him up for another session in July. I want to sign him up for soccer, but I think he's too young, yet.

He's the smallest in his class, and perhaps, the least athletic. But, his balance is impressive. On his forward rolls, well, he couldn't even do them in the first class. But, he was able to do them yesterday with teacher's help. But, he didn't even try to get up. He just landed on his back, and sorta laid there until the teacher told him to stand up.

Oh, and yesterday, one of his classmates fell off the little balance beam. It was so cute...she got back up after a little crying jag and walked the beam...crying and whining the whole way. Then, she was fine. But, Trevor ran over to me and said, "See what happens!" Who says this? Is it me? Is it Daddy? I don't think so. I think it's Miss Dena and Miss Kelly.

Another New Word

We were watching The Simpsons tonight. It's the episode where Homer gets free airline tickets for trying to find a plane. The tickets were valid for anywhere in the US excluding Alaska and Hawaii.

After watching the piece where the Airline Representative tells Homer the tickets are not valid for Alaska or Hawaii, Devin says:

Waii.

He said it over, over, and over the rest of the night. At one point, he started saying, "Waii, Waii!" I would laugh and say Hawaii, and then he would laugh and say Waii.

I don't really understand how Devin can say Hawaii, but not Trevor. Is there a more difficult state name to pronounce besides Hawaii??

The Hayna/Danga thing...

I've been really curious as to why Trevor called me Hayna, the girl with no pants, and then Danga, the girl with pants.

I was so curious, I looked at Wikipedia for Spiderwoman, Superwoman and Wonderwoman. None of these superhero woman were ever named Hayna or Danga, so I still don't know what he's talking about.

So, I asked him, "Who's Hayna?"

He tells me, "I don't want to tell you."

I ask, "Who's Danga?"

He tells me, "I don't want to tell you."

We've had this conversation about 6 times so far. He just doesn't want to tell me who these people might be. He did share that he saw Hayna on the Spiderman movie at home. But, I don't really think so. I watched the Spiderman movie. I don't remember Hayna or Danga. It could be that I should be monitoring his TV watching just a wee bit better...

This morning, Devin said, "Ma Ma! Ma Ma! Jee Moh!"

This means:
"Mama, Mama, Drink Milk!"

Dinner tonight...

Trevor had a rough day today. He had 2 hours of gymnastics, played in the sand for 2 hours, and then had to drive his brother home from the park in his jeep. He was tired. He fell asleep on the couch around 5:30, and he was really out for the day. Still, I made dinner for him. It seemed wrong to assume that he was going to bed at 5:30.

At dinnertime, Devin repeatedly said, "buh buh nee. Buh buh nee." I asked if he wanted to go get Trevor, and he got down from the table and went into the living room to try and wake up him. Buh Buh Nee. Bubba Eat. I think that's what he was saying. What a good concerned little brother he is.

First Fish

We went to a BBQ a little over a week ago at a house on a lake. Trevor caught his first fish! It may have actually been caught by the White Grandpa who was helping Trevor learn to fish. It was a blue gill, I think. And, I'm very proud of Trevor.

The White Grandpa actually isn't a grandpa at all. He was just a bit older and had white hair. At one point, Trevor said, "Where is that White Grandpa?" when he was in the middle of fishing.

Power Wheels

Daddy and I got a Power Wheels Jeep at a Garage Sale a couple of weeks ago. The batteries were dead, and this sent him on a journey to see what he could do about that. Now, the Jeep has new batteries, a new horn, and will very soon probably have headlights and maybe even an airbag! I'm hoping for new wheels. The plastic ones are so loud.

Anyway, with the new batteries, it's super-fast! Daddy had to disable the high gear. Trevor likes to drive it and yell, "Rock and Roll!"

When we asked him if he liked it, he assured us that he did. Is it scary, we asked? Yeah! Is that's why it's fun? Yeah!

Cantaloupe

I got a cantaloupe the other day, and it caused big excitement in the Roth house. Why, you ask? Well, because as Trevor said...

Cantaloupe is a kind of fruit.
Cantaloupe is a kind of orange fruit.
Cantaloupe is a kind of fruit that he eats at Motorola.

At the park today...

Trevor was being spiderman. He was playing around the sandbox, jumping from rocks into the sand. He called Devin Superman. We had a little superhero theme going. Then, he said, "what's your name?"

"Tricia," I replied.

"No, you're Hayna."

"Who's Hayna?" I asked

"Hayna is the girl who doesn't wear pants," he told me.

Well, I was in fact wearing pants (capri pants, anyway) so I pointed that out.

So, he said, "Your name is Danga." (Like Danger without the r.)

"Who is Danga?" I asked.

"Danga is the girl who wears pants."

Now, he also mentioned Hayna was the girl with a star on her underwear. We haven't really watched spiderman, superman, or superwoman. But, I think Hayna might be Superwoman. She has a star on her underwear, doesn't she?

Devin can talk

We had a parent teacher conference last Friday with Devin's teacher. She was concerned that he doesn't talk. Little does she know! Apparently, Devin is shy at daycare.

This Monday, I took the boys to the park. They were playing in the sandbox. Trevor tried to play with a bucket and shovel that someone had left there. Devin had already started playing with these toys. So, when Trevor tried to play with him, too, Devin piped up and said, "Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!" Have you seen the seagulls in the movie, Finding Nemo? It's very similar...

Just a week or two ago, Devin wouldn't say mine. He would say me.

Language is progressing very quickly. He can also say:
Cat

Besides Mine and Cat, I'm sure there are plenty of other words, but I can't think of them now.

Oh, and Trevor has moved to a new room at Daycare. His teachers are Miss Callie (or Kelly, I'm not quite sure) and Miss Tina. His friends are William and Clarkie. They were in one of previous classes. And, he seems happy enough so far...

Trevor is so smart!

On the way home today, Trevor asked me why concrete trucks are so loud. I tried to explain that they had to turn the concrete to keep it from getting hard before it was suppose to.

Then, he asked if concrete was slippery. I told him, "when the concrete is dry, if it gets wet, it may get slippery."

I thought how that probably didn't make a whole lot of sense to a three year old, but decided not to elaborate because it would probably just confuse him. He was quiet for a moment or two. Then, he asked something like, "but, can it be wet if it's dry?"

My Nieces

I want to take a moment, and blog the cut-isms of my nieces.

Stephanie, my 18 year old niece who just graduated high school, was a very cute child. She's now a very cute near-woman. Oh my! When she was a child of about 3, whenever she wanted to go swimming, she asked to put on her "babying suit."

Logan, my almost 3 year old niece, is a very cute child. Whenever she wants to go swimming, she asks to put on her "baby soup."

History repeats itself, sorta.
